For over 17 years, Mario E Dominguez has been photographing the football pitches he comes across, now sharing them with his project “Everyday Fútbol” with one photo being shared every day.

We had the chance to talk to Mario about the way he sees – and captures – the beautiful game and how it weaves through his world.

In Mario's words, “These are spaces of play where community is built and, for a while, you lose track of time. Whether they are made of dirt, grass, sand, or concrete, these fields are a meeting point where the only thing that matters is the game. It’s the football of the neighborhood, the streets, and the potrero.”

“Durante más de 17 años he estado fotografiando diversas canchas de futbol, con las que me voy cruzando. Son esos espacios de juego, en los cuales se genera comunidad y se pierde por un rato, la noción del tiempo. Canchas de tierra, pasto, arena, cemento, son el punto de encuentro, en donde lo único que importa, es el juego. Es el futbol de barrio, de calle, de potrero.”

“I am a seeker of neighborhood pitches and leagues. They call to me — it’s like they’re magnetic. If I see a game happening on a public football pitch and I’ve got a minute to watch, I’m stopping, no questions asked.

Most of the photos were taken in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, and Spain. There are also a few in Cuba, Greece, and Peru.”

"But it’s not just about watching the game; it’s about soaking in the whole vibe. It’s the specific sounds you only hear right there on the sidelines. It’s seeing how football reaches way beyond the four lines of the pitch. Football isn't just something you see—you hear it, you smell it, you feel it. It’s the colors. It’s the neighborhood coming together, but also the rivalry. It’s the highs and the lows, but at the end of the day, it’s about community."
